Access to attainable housing continues to be difficult for many families in the United States, and the City of Northfield in southern Minnesota is no exception. Cardo was approached by Streetfront Development and Northcountry Cooperative Foundation to develop a master plan for a new walkable community in Northfield. Using manufactured homes, and the cooperative model of ownership, this 10-acre site will provide a mix of housing options at a much lower price than other housing alternatives in the region. Creating a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood, with narrow streets, street trees, and access to community spaces and parks, can be achieved with any building typology. Cardo continues to work with development team, architects, and the City to guide this master plan through entitlements as the project turns the page towards implementation.
